Our Curriculum this year..

I thought it would be kinda fun to do a post all about what we do every day since I often get asked..ok..more than often.. how long we do school every day and what exactly do we do. This is just a tentative schedule since it doesn't always go exactly as planned but for the most part this is the routine we try to follow..
7am Lexi up, prayers and scriptures
7-8:30 Lexi does her spelling online at Big IQ Kids , then she does her Spanish on the computer also (it is Rosetta Stone) and then she does Math U See after that. All three of these she does on her own while I am off cleaning our house and getting things going.
8:30 Lexi goes off to get dressed and ready and clean her room while Isabelle gets up and does her scriptures on the computer at scritures4kids.com . I love this site! There is tons of stuff on there that I haven't even had time to check out but all by herself she clicks on the picture and a voice narrates the scriptures in a clear little kid way.
9:00 We start Breakfast & Devotional.. At this time we say the pledge, check the weather and mark our calendar.. write in journals, sometimes work on a poem we are trying to memorize, go over our scripture or Article of Faith we are memorizing, EAT of course and have a short gospel lesson that either follows the Gospel Doctrine Book or we go over something mom is feeling 'inspired' :) to talk about.. Sometimes we are done by 9:30 with this but a lot of time we end up taking till 10.
After this we usually cover at least 3 separate subjects before lunch that are around 45 min long..
Mondays we do Language Art & Grammar, Writing,Saxon Math -Lexi (we are doing two maths right now because Math U See is done on a dvd and she can do on her own and I love it because it teaches all these short cuts that I never learned growing up.. and this year we are also doing Saxon because it is what the public schools are doing and we are kinda covering it to be at the same place..We will see if we continue the whole year doing both but right now I like it. :)
On Mondays Isabelle and me are doing Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons by Siegfried Engelmann and so far I am super impressed with it. She also is working on her alphabet (the letter A right now) and for this month I made her an activity bag from this blog Confessions of a Homeschooler and it has all these darling little activities I made for her that cover a number of different preschool things skills she needs..So Cute! She loves this!
In the afternoons on Monday Lexi also does Fine Arts which is an online program we got thru k12.
Tuesdays lexi's main subjects covered are History.. we use Story of the World and we love this and think it is the BEST! She also does Literature Pockets and cursive writing and Saxon. And in the afternoons she is doing a Music online program called Music Ace Deluxe and I think it is incredible too!
Wednesdays are Language Arts,Grammar, Creative Writing,Saxon and this day we also do Arts/Crafts/& Seasonal projects.
Thursdays Lexi does her early morning routine and reads a lot but we do not do regular school this day.
Friday she also does her morning routine, goes to a co-op Science class and also does whatever test are needing to be done..(spelling for example..)
I read to them from a book at lunch every day and we are involved in a number of field trips each month with other groups. Lexi is in a 'Pickwick' writing group, a classical books book club, and the Library's monthly book club.
Most of our late afternoons each day our spent at The Dance Club (feels like we live there), andUp with Kids- the acting group we are apart of, or park day with a bunch of our Home school friends.
Anyways that is kinda how we roll peoples..
We love homeschooling and it is one of the best choices I feel like I have ever made!
It seems like I get so many questions about how and what we do so hopefully this sheds some light.. :) Sorry if this turned out to be a way boring post!
